about
I wrote this song after watching 'The Passion of The Christ' for the first time when it came out here in NZ. It was so impacting on me that I couldn't go home and went and sat looking out across the bay with my guitar and just began to write.
This version is definitely a 'nice' version of the song. We're working at getting a much more 'raw' track sorted as well as I'd love you to feel the heart behind it.
lyrics
I wasn’t there the day that Jesus stood before the mob
To answer accusations about his teachings and his love
I didn’t see them hit him or spit upon his face
But this I know for certain about what did take place
It was my hand that drove the nails
That held him to the wood
My voice that cried out kill him
As in the crowd I stood
And as he cried out “forgive them
They know not what they do”
He cried out for me
He cried out for me; he cried out for you
I was not among the ones who watched his body whipped
I didn’t hear his cries of pain as they hit him with their fists
And I didn’t watch him stumble on the long way up the hill
But although two thousand years ago my eyes with tears are filled
It was my hand that drove the nails…
And he suffered to show me that he loved me
And he suffered so I could be free
And he rose again, seated now in heaven
But he’ll come back one day, back for you and me
And I will be there that day when he comes back to claim
Those who truly love him and who glorify his name
But ‘till then I’ll hold on tightly to the memory of that day
When Jesus showed he loved me, when he gave his life away
It was my hand that drove the nails…
